Visiting Aleksandra Zee

December 2016

There's a special sense of fulfillment in feeling close to your work. No matter your trade, hard work evokes visceral grit. Aleksandra Zee, our good friend, embodies that kind of grit. As a woodworker and artist, she's a maker and creator in every sense. She produces large-scale pieces out of recycled wood, carefully cutting, shaping, and fitting pieces together in kaleidoscope-like geometric patterns. We're generally in awe of the beautiful life she's carved out for herself in Oakland, and how she's constantly taking her projects on the road to share and collaborate.

Aleksandra knows that with clothing, you just have to go with what works. What's unfussy, indelicate, and clean. Pieces that move with you when you're on the move. This month's collection is inspired by that kind of realistic simplicity – a neutral palette, sturdy fabrics, definitive fits. We couldn't have been more thrilled when Aleksandra agreed to be a part of telling this story.

The Edie Popover in Stripe
Issue 01 A Fresh Take On A Timeless Look Light, tailored, and eye-catching, the vintage Japanese cotton with French ticking stripe print, this popover skirts the line between easy and elegant.
The Abel Pant in Natural
Issue 01 Beauties Built To Last Made from heavy twill with just the right amount of stretch, we’ve done the impossible with this Abel: a pant that’s soft, durable, and with a versatile and flattering fit.
Andie in Tan
Issue 02 A Work-Ready New Addition The newest addition to our collection of ladies’ shirts, the Andie is work-ready. We’ve taken our familiar Katherine fit and sturdied it up, adding two chest pockets. We see this as a bonus, great for things like bobbie pins, or that Allen wrench you’re always losing.
The Lois Dress in Army Green
Issue 03 Double The Trouble This dress doesn’t mess around. Made of soft but sturdy heavy twill, cut immaculately, and able to double as a trench when worn with pants, there’s not much Lois isn’t up for.
