Visiting Aleksandra Zee
December 2016
There's a special sense of fulfillment in feeling close to your work. No matter your trade, hard work evokes visceral grit. Aleksandra Zee, our good friend, embodies that kind of grit. As a woodworker and artist, she's a maker and creator in every sense. She produces large-scale pieces out of recycled wood, carefully cutting, shaping, and fitting pieces together in kaleidoscope-like geometric patterns. We're generally in awe of the beautiful life she's carved out for herself in Oakland, and how she's constantly taking her projects on the road to share and collaborate.
Aleksandra knows that with clothing, you just have to go with what works. What's unfussy, indelicate, and clean. Pieces that move with you when you're on the move. This month's collection is inspired by that kind of realistic simplicity – a neutral palette, sturdy fabrics, definitive fits. We couldn't have been more thrilled when Aleksandra agreed to be a part of telling this story.
